The National Electrical Code is revised every three years. The most recent published edition is the 2020 NEC.
The National Electrical Code is one of the most important pieces of knowledge an apprentice electrician can gain in their effort to pass a journeyman electrician examination and to perform the required work of the trade in compliance with state law. Knowledge of the code along with practical workmanlike training will prevent you from getting injured and injuring others in the real world of potential differences.
Licensed Electricians
The National Electrical Code is adopted into state-wide law in almost all 50 states. (Excepting AZ, KS, MI, and MO)
As a licensed electrician, in each of these states there is a requirement that you review and remain updated on code changes that have been made to the NEC during its process of revision which occurs every three years. This is usually done through authorized provider(s) who are approved by the state you are licensed in. Although National Tradesman currently does not have quizzes for NEC updates, we may have it in the future. In the meantime, check out the quizzes we do have on the menu.
Apprentice Electricians and Vocational Tech Students
National Tradesman is working to provide you with a quality and enjoyable National Electrical Code learning experience that will hopefully be substantial by the time you graduate. All the kidding aside throughout our site, the NEC is the most important tool you can have in your toolbox if you are aspiring to become a licensed electrician. Getting to know the code is not always the most enjoyable task to undertake. Just trying to read and study it is almost as much fun as a funeral. But you need to do it and you are much better off grasping on to the enthusiasm to really learn the trade and realize that the NEC will give you good mileage in those efforts particularly when the day comes that you examine for your license. And it will come. So hang high in there on the curve of all knowledge related to learning your trade, including the National Electrical Code.
